ReplyDeleteIt was the church moms wot done it!!
Dropping the hornets nest on the orthodox surface, in front of God.
In our suburban community in Atlanta in the 1960s/70s, it was the strict, loving, God-fearing church moms who smacked the bottoms of naughty daughters good n proper. It was not the papas per se! Those redoubtable, superhero moms were "ferociously kind!" and saved the world and kept the peace, already!!! :-)
Why, our own papa was duly gonna purchase "the strap" for our bare backsides in the normal Southern fashion in the early 1960s. Indeed, the strap was ubiquitous - par for the course - for naughty daughters in the South (and in the US as a whole). But our papa went away on business a bunch, and so mom was the undisputed botty-smacker-in-chief par excellence. And mom promptly eschewed the idea of the strap already, and kindly gotten sister & me a quality, flexible, thin, rattan cane for our bare bums instead!! Period!
Double GULP!
Oh my! It was simply never questioned or debated. It was just a normal, necessary fact of life in our house. Quite right too!
Two lovely drawings with expert colouring, B :-)
Hugs n smackies n nasty, stingy botties to you, B.
Nostalgic Brenda xx
I colored the Papa doing the spanking, but couldnt match the expert coloring of the spanking Mom :(

Well, yes, how lovely, B! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of Asa's awesome black n white photo from his Monday October 3 post: "added to Black and White Specials".
Four al fresco, very naughty botties, suitably bare, B.
Why, just one top quality, flexible, thin rattan cane is required for appropriate justice me thinks!
Plus this superhero badass mommy from your colouring above, B :-)
ha-ha! Oh my!
