Lovely series, thanks, B. I do so like that tennis drawing - such a famous, iconic poster of the late 1970s, early 80s. Makes me think about the tennis ladies that featured in the OBB, B (alliterations a bunch)
My fave is the last drawing. Oh my! Oooooffph! Ouchieees!! Papa's cane sure did the trick, already, B! I call this classic sketch, "the corrugated botty"...not to be confused with its sister concept of The Five Bar Gate :-)
All very visceral, B: "the rod of correction" - why yes, bad behaviour at home means the nasty, hard, whippy, rattan cane will make an acquaintance with our deknickered, naughty, bare, squishy-soft girly botties when momma or papa is real mad. Oh dear! Hard cane, bare, soft botties! YUP! Sister & I sure gotten those unbearable, stripy-sore-bums a bunch in the 1960s & 70s, B!!
This final drawing & your nice colouring, is a legendary totem of Janus in the 1970s & early 80s, B. I always love to see it, & way back in the day, this drawing correlated (and corrugated!) with the reports & correspondence from Janus Readers in the monthly magazines.
Oh my! Here is a quote from a lady in the Netherlands (...no sniggers, B) from her letter to Janus in the 1970s. It is typical of the content & context of those Readers' Letters, B:
"I was a child of very strict parents & daddy often used the cane on my bare bottom. It did me a lot of good".
