First photo: "The parents' practical, how to guide for daughters' discipline"
ReplyDeletePhoto 1: "Yes, young lady. You do not disobey your mother & throw potty-mouthed tirades in the shopping mall! A stinging bottom right now will stop you getting into trouble when you are older!"
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! multiplied by four = a baker's dozen!
This first photo is one of my faves on your blog, B, & one of my faves of all time. Very simple & illustrative of how to deal with naughty daughters who tell lies. Indeed, I gotten raised exactly like this as a child - cane to bare botty. It was a normal, necessary function of good, traditional parenting in the 1960s & 70s (as recommended by the church) ...parents who care, cane, as they say. This photo could adorn my memoirs for sure, as could many wonderful photos & drawings on your blog, B.
Janus also advocated the exact chastisement process (in photo one) back in the 1970s, & readers letters' detailed authentic reports of bare bottom tannings in evidence. Janus' editors said naughty daughters should be chastised with " a sensible knickers-down caning at home". I sure do agree, B. "Sensible" is most crucially, a key word, And "knickers down" are also key words! And I found it most compelling & alluring to see this Janus edict in the 1970s (I was a freshman student in Atlanta at that time) .
Later in the 1980s, Janus suggested a New Moral Order imperative, which again, stridently supported the scene in photo one; but alas, flexible rattan canes were less abundant in homes...and sadly, even less frequently applied to naughty girls' bare backsides. PC was in the ascendancy.
I was born early 1959 into a very strict, conservative, religious family where the "new moral order" equivalent (ergo, twenty years' before Janus's version!) was just a fact of life in Georgia. All girls gotten spanked, and on their bare bums too. Oh my!
Why, yes, the leather belt AKA the "Southern strap" was the main "rod of correction" in the American South, but my God-fearing mother chose the cane simply because she had gotten it as a child in the 1930s/40s. Interestingly, my father would have chosen the traditional strap for our bare buttocks (sister & me) but mother was the chief bottom smacker for sure, (papa was away a lot) and so we gotten the spanking stick across our bare botties instead, AKA a high-quality, flexible, thin, rattan cane.
Oh my! Yup! Those harsh but harmless whuppin's - Harmless Hell, I call it - sure taught us right from wrong (punishing lies, brattitude & tantrums in store!) & thanks to our Spartan, stern chastisement over childhood & teens; we girls gotten to University & good careers.
Sister & I and our besties, y'all learned accountability, responsibility & consideration for others on the sensitive-skinned orthodox surface provided by God! We are a typical southern church-going family, and a whole bunch of maternal "tough love" - nasty, bare botty canings served me well in yore, B. No wishy-washy nonsense endured. This first photo above is a lovely, authentic, good practical guide to those who forsake PC, wokerati platforms, timeouts, groundings & naughty steps!
Big hugs, strict, loving, traditional family values & totems & nostalgic thanks, B.
