Carpet Beater to bare botty in the Netherlands (pun intended)
Why yes, the rattan carpet beater sure beat out a resonant smacky sound on the bare rotundities of naughty Scandinavian & Dutch girls in yore, B (and indeed Asian girls). Now that's what I call "globalisation", B!
Indeed, I remember Janus reporting these experiences back in the 1970s, including Readers' Letters, of course.

Carpet beater for daughters' bare bottoms - including one famous one, already!
ReplyDeleteI always sniggered at "spanking across the Nederlands", B (Netherlands, as we Americans would write, obviously)
And I was more than intrigued in the late 1970s (in my late teens) to read letters in Janus about the carpet beater. One strict Dutch mom wrote about spanking her daughters' bare bottoms when they were naughty, with the "Rotting" - a typical, household carpet beater! I so coveted this evidence & reporting, B. Oh my!
Moreover, I was just fascinated to learn that the gorgeous singer from ABBA, Agnetha Faltskog, was punished on her bare buttocks with the rattan carpet beater, by her strict father, growing up in Sweden in the 1950s & 60s. This was simply just normal, appropriate discipline in Scandinavia at the time. Agnetha's younger sister also received the same Spartan punishment from pop, naturally, and so it viscerally reminded me of the canings that my sister & I had gotten across our bare botties from mom throughout our childhoods. From Georgia to Sweden, if you will, B!
Agnetha & fellow singer Anna-Frid (Frida) from ABBA, both found themselves on top of the regular OBB lists in Janus in the 70s/80s, B, unsurprisingly!
