Just beautiful, B. These EB drawings & your gorgeous colours are forever in my thoughts, dearest B. I so love the last one. That is me at home in the 1970s: AKA the corrugated botty or indeed the iconic Five Bar gate ha-ha! (Well, more than five bars, already!! Baker's dozen with mom's rattan rod, more like!!)
ReplyDeleteOh my! I love to align these visuals with all your stories, B. And your photos n art. I love to re-read your novellas. I am also researching the Janus Readers Letters. Oh my! Wonderful visceral memories of when I first read them decades ago (1970s).
One mom writes, in the 1970s, "my parents are both teachers, and smacked me with good, old bare bottom smackings; hand and hairbrush". Later B, it was of course necessary for this girl to feel the sting of the cane across her botty from papa, knicks pulled down naturally, to deliver salutary discipline, " dad kept a cane for me, and caned me bare in front of mum". Regarding her own daughters, it was the strap applied to their bare buttocks bending over the chair. Well, I do approve, B, that is my experience, albeit the cane (like she gotten as a child) not the Southern strap.
Another married lady talks about being raised with her twin sister by their single mother in the 1950s. When the girls were bad, the mother requested that her brother came to smack their bottoms:
and so he did , good n sound. And he always pulled down their knickers for a sound caning. No half-measures. I love how the mother just approves of her brother's punishment!!! I sure love the candid nature of these letters, B. This couples well with drawing two, B :-) Channeling the hornets nest down through your fingers, B. Oh my! !!!
Another letter - a daughter of a headmaster contrasts the smackings & canings over knickers at school...to the rather different experience of on a bare botty at home!! Oh dear, B! Well, that is normal & necessary, & how it should be. And indeed her father with that cane at home, was also in fact, the headmaster at school.
"Then at home my knickers would come down for a real bare bottom spanking. You received six strokes".
Another mother reminisces how she gotten fierce bare bottom spankings by hand, over her fathers knee, which was simply par for the course; and how she now gives her three daughters the same smacked bottoms, over her knee "full force on bare skin".
She writes truly, most delightfully, B,
"Now - should girls get spanked ?
Well, why not ?"
"Should they get their knickers pulled down ?
Well, why not ?"
(Oh my! Well, yes, I agree. And I love that candid statement, B!!!)
"Should they get it on the same spot ?
Well, punishment is given to hurt, so why not ?"
Theses details in this letter (why, most Janus letters!) are just beyond delightful, B. They are what I call "ferociously kind" from mom!!! And remind me of my own mother who, when asked by yours truly (in 1960s) why my panties always came down for the cane; said...
"because it is punishment Brenda"!
Nooooo! Boo-Hoo! That's life, B. That is me in the final drawing ha-ha! Stripey bot. No-nonsense. Thank the Lord for that.
