Cane to bare botty - it was harmless, normal & necessary chastisement for naughty daughters.
ReplyDeleteOh my! I so love this photo sequence above, B. Age 63 right now, I coveted such scenes on discovering Janus, Roue & Blushes way back in the 1970s, plus our Californian Nu West, already.
These photos are a direct translation of my childhood punishments with the spanking stick from mom in the 1960s/70s - my knickers gotten pulled pulled down for the cane on my bare botty. That was the punishment. No timeouts necessary! The cane upon bare buttocks was normal & necessary for my younger sister & me, & in fairness, there was no wishy-washy PC wokerati nonsense in Georgia, already!!
We called the cane "the hornets nest" for its salutary, discomforting effect on the sensitive, bare skin of our naughty backsides!! Spankings & whoopings at home were a simple, routine fact of life for 99% of daughters in the South! OK, maybe 90% ha-ha! And the church, y'all parents, neighbours, (everyone!) advocated well smacked bottoms in front of God. Our mother never spared the rod!
I so love the 5th photo, black n white, showing this lovely girl's red-sore, stingy-chafed botty after the cane has done its duty. That is the exact image I gotten of my lovely lil' sister (now in her early 60s ha-ha!) when she was whipped by mommy in our living room in the 60s. Oh my! Her poor squishy-white, sensitive-surfaced, chubby, bare botty! Sister deserved her canings already, for she had a penchant for lies & the cane on a bare backside stopped her taking her lies into the distant future! Mom always sad "a stinging bottom right now will stop you getting into trouble when you are older". Sure thing, B!
I was mesmerised by montages like this above. And from stills from the awesome pioneering "Lesson films" from Janus, 1978 onwards: The Riding, Gym, School & Prefect Lessons. Also films & articles from Roue: The beating of Rosie Keller, After Hours, Half Term Reports etc. These magazines & media totally changed my life in the 1970s. And I learned how British daughters gotten most appropriately, the traditional, black plimsoll, leather strap or cane across their bare botties from mom n pop at home in the 1950s, 60s & 70s, as evidenced by Readers Letters or factual reporting from Janus.
Moreover the Janus editors said that daughters should be lovingly chastised with a "sensible panties-down caning" at home. I sure agree, B. That is exactly the punishment I received as a child and as a teenager. These photos above are a visceral reminder of my whoopings in the living room, in front of God, but also of discovering magazines when I was a students at University - having escaped my strict, religious world of chaperones, Bible Class, church & my mother's bare bottom tannings with her spanking stick!
