In real life, Rosaleen Young had very strict Presbyterian parents & she gotten the cane on her bare bottom when she misbehaved in her 1980s childhood. That was the rule in her house. And the same for "Christian rod" for me in yore too! However, I am not sure if Rosaleen gotten the strap at home: it was cane to bare botty for her, I gleaned from Sarah Winchester's writings/interviews.
Soooo love the three vintage, Blushes photos: to my mind, a strict papa is chastising his daughter in the appropriate manner. Again, cane to bare botty, B - exactly like I gotten as a naughty child!
In the 1970s, early 80s, Janus documented this CP by publishing Readers' Letters every month: One father wrote (late 1970s) about disciplining his daughter
"I have a daughter Angela who is 19 years old & she got married 3 months ago & left home to live in another town. Before she got married, a light cane was used on her bare bottom whenever she misbehaved. Six or twelve strokes would keep in her in line for weeks."
Oh my! I so love the typical, candid, matter-of-fact nature of this letter, B. CP was simply normal in good families! Moreover, his wrote how his niece Jane, received the hairbrush on her bare bottom from her mom, his sister. In brief: his niece then moved to stay with uncle for a job. And his sister instructed him to use the cane on Jane's bare bottom (like Angela gotten previously) when she misbehaved...which is what happened, much to the naughty Jane's chagrin! Oh my! Simple, practical common sense on discipline for Angela & Jane, there, for sure. I love the reports & facts, B.
So the Southern strap was prevalent for my princess besties in Atlanta, B. But naturally, I always felt an affinity with British girls who gotten the parental cane on their bare bottoms in childhood - a common scene in the UK in the 1950s-80s. Janus evidenced the facts.
I was beyond mesmerised, B, to discover years back, that the gorgeous French icon Brigitte Bardot received CP in her strict, conservative Catholic upbringing in 1930s/40s Paris. Brigitte (great name, B xxx) & her younger sister Mijanou, frequently gotten smacked on their bare bottoms with the cane, by their stern father. That was simply the punishment in their house. A sore botty! Period! Of course, this was just normal, necessary chastisement in families, just like I received growing up from my mom n pop.
Le canne, cul nu, comme d'habitude, pour Brigitte & Mijanou - naturally I was fascinated, not only by the cane featuring in the Bardot household, but that the traditional Le Martinet was not used to sting their bare young bottoms.
