And M = mandatory, B! Well, in my book already! Drawing number 7. Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Very Southern belle, B. Canary yellow panties, lovely!! Deculottee! CUL NU :-)
Firstly, B, I soooo love that superhero mom on the final picture: martinet to bare botty! Lovely pastel shading, B. A vignette if you will :-) It is a fine statement, B. A big smack on the backside of wishy-washy PC nonsense! ...a modern take on a modern mom, adopting Ol' fashioned, traditional chastisement on the orthodox surface - raising her modern, naughty lil' miss of a daughter (I sure approve, B!!!!)
For teenager moi, there were too few mentions of Le Martinet in 1970s Janus, B. In fact, your Blog has been the great informer on the botty smacker Francais!! YUP! Oh my :-)
One delightful letter from Janus, late 1970s, is from a good, Anglo-French lady who refers to "the whip." As a child, she was raised to feel the cane on her bare buttocks, by her strict, military father, in France during WW2. She writes candidly,
"can it be so very wrong for a father to upend a teenage girl, yank down regulation knickers, then cane hard her bare bottom...counting aloud for all to hear the hard strokes...and to decide that another six strokes is required and given".
Her knicks in question, B, duly pulled down, were "traditional white cotton knickers" (sooo cute B - like 1950s panties sister & I wore growing up, at mother's stern insistence)
In France in the war, 1940s, her father then married a French girl and God blessed y'all with two new two daughters, who gotten raised with the "whip" on their bare bottoms. The writer also gotten the whip & still the cane from her father
"He decided the cane was the best answer. I fetched it for him as instructed - about 30 inches - and I pulled down my knickers, my step-mum and sisters watching."
Interesting B, the good lady calls it "the whip", not the martinet, & says "my sisters got undressed, the whip must always be given on the bare bottom, useless over clothes"
How wonderful, B. She continues,
"She would get mad and send for dad and and I would end up knickers around my ankles getting the cane from him".
This is just delightful, B. She concludes by saying "the whip can be bought in the hardware shops today" & indeed unsurprisingly, she applies to her her own daughters' bare backsides, B, in the normal, necessary fashion. She says,
"Because of how we were brought up - we smack. And how we smack ? Bare and hard like my dad did, But where it can't be seen"
Yup! Sounds like the naughty bare botty was the target for the martinet, regarding her daughters, B. Quite right too. And so this letter is illustrated by pictures 7 & 9, B ? I soooo love them.
Picture 9 is my fave! Oh my! Oh my! One of my fave pieces on your blog, B. A hint of Rosaleen for sure, B? This art depicts the Janus letter above. I sooooo love the cute, yellow panties, duly dislocated, squishy-white botty on show, and mommy's apron. That is my childhood in pure essence, B!!!! (OK mom had the cane not the martinet) Mom is a strict, loving superhero. She passed sentence of a "smacked bottom" in the mall after her daughter's terrible antics. And now at home, in private, she is carrying out that sentence in the normal, necessary Spartan manner! Bravo, B. That is how things should be. I approve!!!!
The martinet was designed for tender, bare princess botties, B. No meant to sting through panties. "Useless" as the Janus lady said above. The Scottish tawse was designed the same for bare surface, B!
Another rare Janus reference to le martinet: American girl, French mother, born 1950s, writes how she spent her childhood en vacances, in Normandy with her aunt. She sometimes gotten the martinet just like her (mother & aunt) & two female cousins: dresses off, panties down, BARE BOTTY, bending over the armchair like drawing 9: "like hot razor blades being struck into my skin" she writes. Boo-Hoo! Oh dear! No naughty steps gotten invented sadly, B. Nostalgic Brenda xx
